Workforce Development

NovaWorks

The Office Economic Development's mission includes working with businesses and developers to attract, retain and expand businesses and employment opportunities in Milpitas. Economic Development staff lead workforce development programs for skills development and job placement in partnership with the City's workforce development provider NOVAworks Job Center

NOVAworks is a nonprofit, federally funded employment and training agency that provides customer-focused workforce development services to Milpitas residents and employers. NOVAworks collaborates closely with local businesses, educators, and job seekers to ensure its programs provide opportunities that build the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to address the workforce needs of Silicon Valley.

NOVAworks' purpose is to support workforce mobility by easing workers' transitions from opportunity to opportunity throughout their career cycles. To advance transitions with economic sustainability, NOVAworks provides:

  • Real-time labor market information about in-demand skills
  • Skill-building and enhancements to match market demand
  • Navigation tools for the ever-changing and entrepreneurial new labor market
  • Advocacy for necessary infrastructure to support workers between opportunities, such as unemployment
  • Insurance for all, and portable benefits
  • Interconnected support system for multiple career pathways for youth

NOAVworks partnered with the City on the MyPlan Milpitas Workforce Recovery Program. NOVAworks collaborates with the California Employment Development Department to provide layoff assistance guidance via semi-monthly webinars.
