The City and Milpitas Unified School District (MUSD) hosted Milpitas' seventh annual Manufacturing Day event on Friday, October 13 in partnership with KLA Corporation and Flex. This year’s event was the first in-person event since 2019 due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions resulting in virtual events the last three years. The purpose of this event was to inform and educate high school students in Milpitas about the local technology and advanced manufacturing industry. More than 100 people including 60 high school students, City and school district officials, teachers, Chamber of Commerce and community participated in presentations, panel discussions and Q&A sessions with KLA and Flex employees, as well as facility tours and demonstrations at these businesses. Activities also included students touring a clean room at KLA in bunny suits and participating in a production line simulations at Flex.
Manufacturing Day is an initiative of The Manufacturing Institute to inspire and build the future manufacturing workforce and generate awareness about the manufacturing industry. This event is celebrated on the first Friday of October, but communities around the country celebrate Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) throughout October via various events including facility tours, educational fairs, hiring events, and classroom visits. The City and MUSD have hosted Manufacturing Day in partnership with Milpitas manufacturers since 2017. Event collaborators were recognized for their contributions to this year's event by the Milpitas City Council and Milpitas Unified School District Board of Education.
