There are two surveys currently open for community feedback!
The first, is related to short-term rentals (STRs) within Milpitas. STRs have grown 800% since 2011 and common STR platforms include, Airbnb, VRBO, Flipkey, Roomorama and HomeAway. Your input will help staff craft policy recommendations for the Council’s consideration, primarily in the areas of identifying and managing short-term rentals, increasing availability, understanding neighborhood impacts and providing for enforcement and addressing complaints.
The second, is related to accessory dwelling units (ADUs), also known as, granny flats, in-law units, cottages, or secondary units. An ADU is essentially a second living space, complete with a kitchen and living areas that must either be attached or detached to a single-family residence. There are new state laws that the city must comply with but there are also some discretionary changes that can be considered. Your input will help staff craft policy recommendations for the Council’s consideration, primarily in the areas of owner-occupancy requirements, increasing the quantity allowed per single family lot, eliminating the limit on the number of bedrooms and requiring deed restrictions.
