The City of Milpitas believes that helping students achieve their goals is important to the well-being of its youth and to the overall enrichment of the community. The purpose of the Youth Scholarship Program is to allow low-income Milpitas resident youth to submit a request for funding assistance for academic improvement, community service, participation in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), and participation in youth sports.

In addition to a timely and complete application, the Youth Scholarship applicant must demonstrate the following:
1. Applicant must reside in Milpitas and be enrolled in a Milpitas School;
2. Applicant household income must fall within HUD Low-Income Limits for Santa Clara County.  See below for current income limits; and
3. Applicant must meet eligibility requirements for each funding area(s) they submit applications for.

Applicants should review and understand the scholarship program policy for eligibility, required documents, and scholarship recipient responsibilities.

Academic Improvement Scholarship

  • Applicant must be a graduating senior with acceptance to a higher education institution.
  • Applicant must have had a semester with a GPA not lower than 2.5 and not higher than 2.8 and have improved their GPA by at least 0.5 grade points over a period of no more than three (3) semesters up to and including the last completed semester at the time of scholarship application.
  • Applicant can request funds to assist with Higher Education Tuition and/or Education Materials (i.e. books, laptops)

Community Service Scholarship

  • Applicant must be a graduating senior with acceptance to a higher education school, with a GPA of at least 2.5.
  • Applicant must be able to demonstrate community service hours above and beyond the Milpitas Unified School District 20-hour requirement.
  • Community Service hours must be from projects and/or service events during the Applicant’s junior and senior year, within Milpitas proper, and with a non-profit organization, special School service programs/activities (advisor approved), or governmental agency.
  • Applicant can request funds to assist with Higher Education Tuition and/or Education Materials (i.e., books, laptops)

NJROTC Scholarship

For graduating seniors, applicant:

  • Applicant must be accepted to a higher education school and have a support letter from their NJROTC advisor confirming their enrollment and active participation in the Milpitas High School NJROTC Program for at least two (2) years, including their senior year.
  • Applicant can request funds to assist with Higher Education Tuition and/or Education Materials (i.e., books, laptops)

For 8th Grade, Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior, enrolled and in good standing with the Milpitas Unified School District NJROTIC program, applicant:

  • Applicant can request funds to assist with participation in the Milpitas Unified School District NJROTC program; and
  • Applicant funds must be made at least 30 days before the start of an activity related to the funding request.

Youth Sports Scholarship

  • Applicant must be enrolled or enrolling in a new season with a youth sport organization operating within the City of Milpitas with 51% or greater Milpitas residents.
  • Applicant’s youth sport organization of choice must conduct business in compliance with the non-discrimination requirements of the City, State and Federal government, and must not to participate in any process that discriminates based on sex, race, color, national origin, or religion.
  • Applicant can request funds to assist with participation in an amateur athlete group.
