Reserving Transportation to the Senior Center
Reservations should be made no later than 12:00pm the day before the ride is needed and no longer than one week in advance. To reserve a ride, please call 408.586.3400 or reserve transportation in person at the Senior Center Front Desk. We request that you reserve rides only for yourself and not for other seniors. Caregivers may accompany passengers free of charge. Please notify the staff when making a reservation. Note: the caregiver must also have a Shuttle Service Registration Form on file to use this service.
You must be flexible and aware that your proposed pick-up time requested may need to be adjusted according to other prescheduled routes. Reservations are on a first call/first serve basis.
Pick-Up Process
- Shuttle driver will provide door-to-door service in assisting participants and can assist participants in and out of the shuttle bus, if needed. Shuttle driver will not enter any participant’s residence, nor be able to secure their home (locking doors, etc.)
- It is the responsibility of the participant to be at the designated pick-up location at the prearranged time
- Shuttle driver is under no obligation to search for passengers and will wait no longer than 5 minutes for passengers when on route
Canceling a Ride
If you need to cancel a ride, please do so as far ahead as possible. Canceling a ride in advance is appreciated and might allow us to provide a ride to another member who needs the service at that particular time.
Being Ready
Expect the Shuttle Bus to arrive at any time between 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the scheduled pick up time. Please be ready for your ride 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled pick up. This allows for more flexibility in scheduling so that more people can ride the bus. If possible, please wait where you can see the bus arrive.
Drivers Wait Time
To avoid delaying other passengers, drivers can only wait 5 minutes for you. The bus driver will either phone ahead to let you know their arrival time or upon arrival to your address, they will attempt to contact you by cellphone.
Delays
We will make every effort to pick you up on time, but traffic, weather or other delays may sometimes result in an unavoidable late pick-up. The Senior Center office will try to contact you when there is a delay and reasonable time affords a phone call. If you find for some reason that the bus is later than the expected arrival time listed above, please feel free to call the Senior Center Front Desk at 408.586.3400 for clarification.
Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, Shuttle Service may be canceled for the day. Advance notice will be given to participants in this case.
Safety
For your safety and the safety of others, you must use a seatbelt at all times. If you need assistance, please ask your shuttle driver. If you are traveling in a wheelchair or other mobility device, your driver will secure you using a four-point system along with a lap and shoulder belt, which you must use in addition to any belts you may have on your mobility device. In the event of an emergency, follow the directions of your driver.
Any carry-on items (bags, etc.) are limited to what the passenger can carry and place on their lap and/or underneath their own seat.
