Effective January 1, 2022, the City of Milpitas requires an alarm permit for residential and commercial security alarms. Milpitas Municipal Code V-213-12.05, Resolution 6449 regulates false alarms and associated fees. To avoid costly fees, please make sure your alarm is in good working order, your alarm company has your current contact information and that everyone in your household or business is aware of how to operate the system. | ||

Milpitas Police Officers are authorized to sign off traffic citations that consist of certain license, vehicle equipment or registration violations. Please ensure the problem has been fixed and bring your citation or court notice to the Milpitas Police Department. Note: Law enforcement cannot sign off on proof of insurance violations. CLEARANCE LETTERS |
Clearance letters can be obtained for travel, visa or immigration purposes. Milpitas PD will conduct a database search for the last five (5) years. State and County criminal records will be not be searched. The clearance letter applies to the City of Milpitas only and not to any other agency. |
Requirements: • Must come in person during Records business hours. (Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM). • Provide valid driver’s license or government issued photo identification. • Provide documentation from governing agency clearly requesting a clearance letter. • Must be a current Milpitas resident or have lived in Milpitas within the last five (5) years. • No charge for a clearance letter. |

If you received a misdemeanor citation issued by Milpitas PD, you may be required to pre-book prior to your court date. Pre-booking will involve having your fingerprints and photo taken. | |

REQUESTING POLICE/FIRE REPORTS | |
Police/Fire reports may only be released to authorized parties and according to State law. Reports involving certain types of crime (i.e. juvenile cases or sex-related crimes) may not be released. Most releasable reports are available within 5-7 working days. • To determine if a report can be released to you or for information regarding the status of your report, please contact the Records Department at (408) 586-2400. • Make sure you have your case number readily available when calling. • You may request a report in person or by mail. We do not email reports. • If you are a suspect in a case or have been arrested and are still going through court, please contact Superior Court or the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for procedures on how to obtain a copy of your report. • Hours for Report Release are Monday – Friday from 8:00AM – 4:00PM. | |

VEHICLE RELEASE | |
All vehicles towed by the Milpitas Police Department must have a release form issued by the police department before the tow company can release the vehicle. | |
Requirements: • Eligible vehicles are ONLY released to the registered owner, last driver of the vehicle, or financial institutions with proper documentation. • Vehicle must be currently registered. • Driver must have a valid driver’s license. • Administrative tow fees may apply depending on tow authority. If a vehicle has a 30 Day Hold, you can request a tow review by our Traffic Division by leaving a message at (408) 586-2400. A traffic officer will call you back after reviewing your tow and will advise if the vehicle can be released earlier. If you are looking to retrieve property from an impounded vehicle, you must appear at the Milpitas Police Department to obtain a Property Release Form. This form will only be issued to the registered owner or the last driver of the vehicle with a valid driver’s license or photo ID. | |

WARRANT INFORMATION | |
If you believe you may have a warrant for your arrest, you must respond in person to the Milpitas Police Department to discuss your options. Please bring photo ID. Minimal information will be provided over the phone. Certain warrants are eligible to be cite released. Please contact the Records Department to confirm. Cite Release Process: • Hours for cite release are Monday – Friday from 10:00AM – 4:00PM. • Appear in person at the Milpitas Police Department. • Provide photo ID. • A court date will be issued. • You will be required to sign a document promising to appear in court. • Fingerprints and photo may also be required. Requesting warrant information on someone else is strictly prohibited and warrant information will not be provided. |
