Officer Involved Shooting – October 15, 2021

On October 15, 2021, Milpitas Police Detectives initiated an enforcement stop of a stolen vehicle that was parked in the Milpitas Square shopping center located at the 400-block of Barber Lane. A 42-year-old man emerged from the stolen vehicle with a gun. A Detective then fired his weapon at the man. An exchange of gunfire then occurred between the man and four detectives. The man was taken to the hospital where he passed away from injuries on October 19, 2021.

The Milpitas Police Department has released portions of audio and video evidence in the form of this critical incident video to inform our community of what occurred. Portions of the video have been redacted, as noted in the video itself, and the purpose of the video to provide more detailed information about this incident.
