Rent and Mortgage Relief Program

The City of Milpitas Rent & Mortgage Relief Program is now live! Eligible low-income households negatively impacted by COVID-19 can receive up to $5,000 in rent relief.

General eligibility criteria for rent relief —

Resident of Milpitas for at least six (6) months
Experienced economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic after January 21, 2020.
Located within the boundaries of Milpitas, California
Is at or below 120% area median income (AMI)

Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley: This program safely provides emergency repairs, specifically for those impacted by the coronavirus who have no hot water or heat, and are making those repairs through vetted contractors. Unemployment, Disability, Child Care and Education

Federal Economic Impact Payments: To find out if you are eligible to receive funding under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) click here.
Unemployment Insurance: Workers who have been laid off, have lost hours, or who must serve as caregivers due to the COVID-19 virus can apply for unemployment insurance (UI) through the California Employment Development Department (E.D.D.) which has waived the usual waiting period. For more information, click here.

Disability Insurance: Workers who are unable to work due to having or being exposed to COVID-19 can file a Disability Insurance (DI) claim. For more information, click here.

Caregiving: Workers who are unable to work because they are caring for an ill or quarantined family member with COVID-19 can file a Paid Family Leave (PFL) claim. For more information, click here.

Childcare: Under the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act, some eligible employees can receive paid sick days and extended leave when a parent cannot work because of the closure of a child’s school or child care because of Covid-19. Additionally, the California Family School Partnership Act entitles workers at employers with 25 or more employees to up to 40 hours of job-protected, unpaid leave per year in a child care emergency. Beyond this, workers may apply for unemployment insurance.
