GENERAL INFORMATION
Creighton Park Renovation – Creighton Park is currently closed for renovation until completion of construction, which is estimated to be summer 2020. Park improvements include new playground facilities; restroom building; shade structure; fitness stations; enclosed dog play area; walking path; irrigation; and landscape improvements. Sports Center Skate Park/Snack Shack/Restroom Building – The Sports Center Snack Shack and Restroom Building is currently closed for replacement until completion of construction with the grand opening planned for June 2020. The project includes installation of 20,000-square foot skate park facility; two restroom buildings; snack shack concession building; sports equipment storage containers; and sanitary sewer pipeline replacement. A portion of the Sports Center parking lot will be closed for the duration of construction and detour signage will be in place. During construction, access to the sports fields will be maintained, and portable restrooms have been installed. Trails and Bikeway/Pedestrian Master Plan Update 2019 – An update to the City’s Trails and Bikeway/Pedestrian Master Plan is currently underway and is estimated to be completed by spring 2020. The Updated Master Plan will identify connectivity improvements for local destinations such as the new BART Station, identify gaps in the City’s recreational trail network, and will provide recommendations for bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements. The public outreach phase of the project has started, and staff has been in contact with several public agencies including the cities of San Jose and Fremont, the County of Santa Clara Roads & Airports, and Valley Water. Staff has also connected with the Silicon Valley Bike Coalition and will be coordinating with Milpitas Unified School District. A Workshop will be held on October 7th, 2019 as part of the Parks Recreation and Cultural Resource Commission (PRCRC) meeting, which starts at 7:00 pm. The purpose of the workshop is to provide participants with an overview of the master plan update and review existing conditions and needs analysis results. American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking Plus Program – The City of Milpitas is partnering with the American Lung Association and has been granted 60 free memberships. Freedom From Smoking Plus is the newest way to access the American Lung Association’s proven smoking cessation program. The program also includes support to enhance participants’ quit attempts and give them the best change of quitting for good. Bay Area Air Quality Management District Regional Odor Study Meeting, September 16 at 10 am, City Hall Council Chambers: The Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s Stationary Source Committee will be conducting a public meeting to discuss the South Bay Odor Study currently underway. PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff Community Meeting, September 24 at 6:00 pm, Senior Center Rooms 140/141 – The City of Milpitas is hosting a community meeting about PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program so that residents can find out more information and learn how to be prepared for a multi-day power outage, as well as general emergency preparedness. Executive staff members and representatives from PG&E will be present to answer any questions.
