Milpitas Approves New Housing Development
38-unit project includes affordable below-market homes
on last large vacant tract in Milpitas
Milpitas, Calif. — The Milpitas City Council approved on Tuesday, January 21, the development of a new neighborhood of 38 single-family homes that features a significant contribution to housing affordability for the region.
The project being developed by Robson Homes will include four below-market-rate homes as well as purpose-built “accessory dwelling units” that will offer flexible smaller-scale housing to help address the demand for affordable housing in Silicon Valley.
“I am really pleased that this project will include four affordable housing units,” said Milpitas Mayor Rich Tran. “This project is the result of excellent collaboration between Robson Homes and our professional staff, along with the thorough engagement from our community. The accessory units will also be affordable by design and well-integrated into the project, thus offering more affordable housing options in our community.”
The nearly five-acre site of currently vacant land is located in northern Milpitas bordering North Park Victoria Drive near Jacklin Road.
“The design and architecture of the homes are meant to be respectful of the character of neighboring homes and our community’s heritage,” said Milpitas project planner Adrienne Smith. “They will feature a mixture of Spanish and Craftsman styles with concrete tile roofs and facades in varying earth tone colors. The overall project will be thoughtfully sensitive to the layout of the surrounding neighborhoods.”
