City Manager Julie Edmonds-Mares has appointed Alex Andrade as the Economic Development Director. Andrade comes to Milpitas from the City of Mountain View, where he served as the Economic Development Manager for the past five years.
“Alex brings a wealth of education and experience to our team and I’m excited to have him on-board to hit the ground running,” said City Manager Edmonds-Mares. “He has a strong track record of creating a vibrant and competitive business environment to ensure there is a healthy local economy providing job opportunities and revenue to the city. He will be key in continuing to build strong relationships with the corporate and real estate community and the residents of Milpitas.”
Previously, Andrade worked for the largest Redevelopment Agencies in California (San Jose, Los Angeles and San Francisco), various cities including Menlo Park and Poway, as well as being a Program officer at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation leading their regional planning portfolio. Collectively, he has over 18 years of experience working in the public sector, primarily in the economic and community development arenas. He holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, San Diego. He serves as a Resident Fellow at Stanford University and is currently in the Santa Clara County Leadership Academy. He also is a member of the Silicon Valley Economic Development Alliance and the California Association of Local Economic Development.
Economic Development is a concerted effort by city officials to ensure the local economy is healthy and sustainable to ensure the quality of life continues to increase for residents, employees and visitors, alike. “It’s an honor to be able to come work for Milpitas, a city that is rapidly growing and thriving. I am excited to be able to work together with the city’s strong business community and active diverse neighborhood groups to look for strategic opportunities and constructive solutions for the city,” said Andrade.
Andrade will report directly to the City Manager and will begin with the city on December 10, 2018.
