Rich Tran is a 3 consecutive terms at-large elected Mayor for his hometown of Milpitas, where he won each election by a landslide. Mayor Tran is also a veteran of the United States Air National Guard 129th Rescue Wing, where he earned an Achievement Medal for his response to national emergencies. He began his public service early in his career as a social worker. Mayor Tran graduated from NYU with a MPA, SJSU with a MSW, UCLA with a BA in Political Science and Sociology, and Milpitas High School with a diploma. His parents are political refugee “boat people” who escaped Vietnam following the war. He is the first Vietnamese-American Mayor in Milpitas’ 68 year history.
