Over the City offices winter closure, many employees were able to spend time rejuvenating with friends and family. I’m happy to report that everything ran smoothly over the break. I’d like to acknowledge and extend my gratitude to those employees that continued to work during the closure to maintain 24/7 essential services and also would like to extend everyone a Happy New Year!

Community Surveys on Accessory Dwelling Units and Short-term Rentals
Community feedback is requested on two surveys currently open: the first, regarding accessory dwelling units (ADU’s) and the second, regarding short-term rentals. Each survey is designed to take approximately 2 minutes or less to complete and will be open until January 31, 2019. While there are limitations to what the City may impose due to state law, there are a few discretionary areas for Council policy consideration, including size, setback limitations and owner occupancy requirements. Thus, community input on these discretionary areas will be valuable for Council decision making.
Update on Prop 218 Noticing on Proposed Water and Sewer Utility Rates
Per the Council’s direction from November 29, the legally required Prop 218 noticing for the proposed water and sewer utility rates was sent to all households beginning December 21. A dedicated webpage was been established at www.milpitas.gov/watersewer2018, which contains critical information on the water and sewer systems, as well as an FAQ section. Outreach to stakeholders/community groups has begun, and the first of several community meetings will be held next week on Tuesday, January 8 at 6:00 p.m. at Pearl Zanker Elementary School.
