The City of Milpitas has completed the first phase of monitoring of Calaveras Road. During this initial monitoring and road closure, the City noted dangerous conditions and will be working with consultants to perform road subsurface investigations for long-term road safety. The additional work will begin the week of March 20, 2017, and includes a topographic survey and a geotechnical investigation including subsurface soil sampling. The topographic survey and geotechnical investigation will inform the City on the appropriate course of action to repair the roadway.
The reopening date of Calaveras Road will be determined based on the results of the geological analysis and weather permitting. Potential storms are expected this week and can contribute to hazardous road conditions. Current detour routes will remain in place until a reopening date for Calaveras Road is determined. Please note that during this next phase of work on the road, pedestrian and bicycle traffic may be restricted for public safety.
