The Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) is an insurer-supported organization with the primary mission of providing advisory insurance underwriting and rating information to insurer. ISO collects information on a community’s building-code adoption, Building Department’s staff, and enforcement services, analyzes the date, and then assigns A Building Code Effectiveness Classification from 1 to 10. Municipalities with well-enforced, up-to-date demonstrate better loss experience, and their citizens insurance can reflect that.
At the City Council meeting on February 21, 12017, Mr. Dale K. Thomure, Manager of Community Hazard Mitigation with ISO presented to the City of Milpitas Building & Safety Department Director, Keyvan Irannejad a plaque in recognition of their exemplary commitment to building code enforcement. ISO recently completed an evaluation of the City of Milpitas Building and Safety Department and awarded the department a classification of 1 for personal lines activities and a classification of 1 for commercial lines activities. The classification of 1 is the highest classification possible in the Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS®) program. The City of Milpitas first earned the classification of 1 in personal and commercial lines in 2011 and has maintained that classification. Less than one percent of the departments evaluated by ISO achieve the highest classification.
