Invasive Mosquito Detected in Milpitas – Community Action Needed
The Santa Clara County Mosquito and Vector Control District has detected the Aedes aegypti mosquito in a new Milpitas neighborhood near Los Coches and S. Hillview Drives. This species is an aggressive daytime biter capable of spreading serious diseases such as dengue and Zika (none are currently present locally).
Because this mosquito is spreading into new areas of the county, residents may see mosquito control technicians in their neighborhood. These licensed professionals are authorized to check for and treat mosquitoes as needed. All staff will have official identification.
How Residents Can Help
- Allow property access for Vector Control technicians conducting inspections and treatments.
- Report day-biting mosquitoes (black and white striped legs/body):
Eliminate standing water weekly: Dump, scrub, and dry containers — even small ones like flowerpot saucers or pet dishes — to prevent mosquito eggs from hatching.

For questions, contact the District Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3 p.m. at (408) 918-4770 or email mosquitovector@cep.sccgov.org.
Together, we can protect our community from the spread of this invasive mosquito.
