Milpitas City Council Adopts Modernized Zoning Code to Shape Future Growth

In a major step toward creating a more sustainable, accessible, and business-friendly City, the Milpitas City Council has unanimously adopted Phase 2 of the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Update. This action completes a multi-year effort to modernize the City’s zoning code, bringing it up to date with current planning best practices, simplifying regulations, and aligning local laws with state and federal requirements.

The updated Zoning Ordinance, set to take effect on October 2, 2025, guides how land can be used and developed in Milpitas including what kinds of buildings can be constructed, where businesses and homes can go, and how existing properties can be modified.
