August 26 marks Women’s Equality Day, a time to honor the historic passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. This milestone was the result of tireless advocacy by generations of women who demanded a voice in our democracy. As we reflect on this progress, we also acknowledge that the journey toward full equality has not been the same for all women—many continued to face barriers to voting and civic participation for decades afterward. And even now, the pursuit of true gender equity remains ongoing.
